'The new Tjebbo Penning film, who translated Rene Appels novel of the same title into a fascinating
'A grown up crime drama ; and that's a formidable achievement.'
'Clean hands is Dutch-great, and it's high time this term is used with respect.'
Filmabides – 5*****
'Everything revolves around the strong characters and their downward spiral.'
'Director Tjebbo Penning packs this family drama with some exciting action sequences and equally entertaining dialogue that Van Koningsbrugge relishes.'
'Especially Reuten manages to involve us in her continueous dilemma.'
AD – 4****
'An excellent portrayal of these low level Amsterdam criminals.'
'Taut, biting dialogue and a great cast, excellently fleshed out under Penning's direction.'
'Van Koningsbrugge is an excellent match for Reuten'
'Excellent, the way Penning creates this world of petty thieves without falling back on cliches.'
Trouw – 4****
'Reuten shines in this part.'
'No longer does the Nederthriller just rule on TV.'
HP de tijd – 4****
'An intriguing psychological drama by Tjebbo Penning in a confident directorial debut.'
The New York Daily News - Jamie Bernard
Frosh Dutch helmer Tjebbo Penning has fashioned a sleek, highly stylized arthouse thriller.
Variety - Ronnie Scheib
'MORLANG finds co-writer and director Tjebbo Penning taking reality and running with it, and creating a moody, stylized picture in the process. Morlang's pacing is near perfect, allowing for character development, but never letting it overshadow the mystery.'
Entertainment Today, Aaron M. Fontana
'Intriguing , implicit and documentary shot GREAT KILLS ROAD relies strongly on atmosphere and rambles
through the town.'
NRC Handelsblad - Dana Linssen
'Not only does the main character in GREAT KILLS ROAD remind us of the confused, paranoid male characters in CLEAN , SHAVEN and KEANE. A disrupting soundtrack and disorienting images enables the viewer to see and hear New York through the eyes of a wandering man.'
De Filmkrant - Jos van der Burg

WRITER/DIRECTOR TJEBBO PENNING spent the first years after graduating from Amsterdam's Film Academy directing so much crap that his frustration exploded into a short horror spoof about an inflatable sex doll on a rampage. Fortunately THE BITCH IS BACK turned into a film festival hit, as did the more serious follow-up THE OATH, winning many international awards along the way. The next two years he made commercials for clients like Volkswagen, Kodak and Nike.
In 2001 his feature film debut MORLANG hit theaters in Europe and the United States.
In September of that year Tjebbo moved to New York City experiencing 9/11 from up close. The short film MY 9/11, made five years later, imagines telling this story to his son Milo, born 4 weeks after the buildings fell.
Great Kills Road, Tjebbo's second feature film, was released in Dutch theaters in the spring of 2010, and marks his first endeavor into low-budget digital film making. His short film THE BRICKLAYER'S SON premiered at the Dutch Film Festival later the same year.
2015 sees the release of Tjebbo's third feature film; SCHONE HANDEN (CLEAN HANDS), based on Rene Appel's best selling crime novel of the same title, and in doing so, staying close to his favorite moral dilemma… crime and punishment.
CHAMBERS STREET FILMS is the name for Tjebbo Penning's Film Production Company. It was the sole producer on the short film “The Bricklayer's Son”, and the co-producer on the feature film “Great Kills Road and the short doc/fable “My 9/11”.
